Monolithos Castle

Just 25 km after the Castle of Kritinia, stand the ruins of another spectacular Venetian castle called Monolithos. The castle of Monolithos which was built in 1479 by the magister d’ Aubusson  ,lies on a hill of 236 meters above the ground.
Built on high altitude , it served as fortification due to it’s strategic also position overlooking the breathtaking view of the mountain of Akramytis , the amazing beach of Fourni, the island of Halki  and some  islets.
Inside the castle as well  there is a white chapel dedicated to Saint Panteleimon which was built in the 15th century.
